Communication Studies and Research Office

Coordinator: Mg. Cecilia Yornet

Co-coordinator: Dr. Daniel Gimeno.

The antecedent of the GEICOM (Cabinet of Studies and Research in Communication) was born with the creation of the Cabinet of Semiotic Studies, with approval of the Board of Directors of the FACSO in 1988, under the dependence of the Department of Communication Sciences, with the aim of generating research work around Semiotics. Another Research Office that operated in the Department, in those years, was that of Studies and Research in Public Opinion. Subsequently, since 1990, and with a view to deepening studies in Communication Research, the Board of Directors decided to unify the cabinets into one: GEICOM. Since that date, and without interruption, projects accredited by the CICITCA (Council for Scientific, Technical and Artistic Creation Research) have been developed.

The first coordinator of GEICOM was Lic. Leticia Berger, then Professor Teresita Nicolás, also the Lic. Mónica Raffaele and the Lic. Ana Celina Puebla. Currently, the cabinet coordinator is Mg. Cecilia Yornet and the coordinator is Dr. Daniel Gimeno.

In addition to the research work, GEICOM coordinated the delivery of the “Postgraduate Improvement Course” on “Research in Communication”, dictated by Sergio Caletti from June to December 1995, with a total of 105 hours; which was intended for GEICOM researchers.

In 2008, the first scientific exchange sessions were held, which were reiterated in May 2010.

Currently, GEICOM has CICITCA scholarship holders, in the categories of “Advanced Students” and “Initiation”. For several years now, uninterruptedly,  Within the GEICOM, students from the Bachelor's degree in Social Communication have completed their scholarships.
